Mrs. Chaitoff
I was born here in Anchorage and went to Gladys Wood, Mears Middle School, and Dimond High School. I graduated from UAA in 1996 with a degree in Elementary Education, & a minor in Music and Psychology. I subbed in the district for a year, and was then hired in 1997 to teach 6th Grade at Chester Valley Elementary, then transferred to Chinook Elementary. After getting married, I lived in Seattle for a year, then returned to teach in Anchorage at Lake Hood Elementary. I just completed my 20th year in the Anchorage School District. My husband, Howard Chaitoff, is a physician's assistant at Achieve TMS. We have two children, Madison (10) in 5th grade, and Camden (7), who will be in 2nd grade this year here at Lake Hood.
I play violin in the Anchorage Civic Orchestra; our concerts are held in the Sydney Lawrence Theater at the Performing Arts Center, about 3-4 times a year. I try and remain active and healthy by exercising often. I have completed the Gold Nugget Triathlon nine times. I also like to do the Ski for Women, the Bike for Women, and the Run for Women. Both my mom and stepmom are breast cancer survivors, and in fact, my sister Kelly drives the pink patrol car for APD, helping to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Creating a community of respect in my classroom in very important. My job is to prepare these 6th graders for their transition to middle school next year. I have many systems in place to support them and we will work daily on organizational skills and personal accountability. I find that the students who are most successful have open lines of communication between home and school. I am here to be your partner in your child's education and working together, will nurture and support them so that they will find academic and social success!
